In a 3D rendering pipeline, Look-Up Tables (LUTs) play an essential role in color grading and tone mapping. When using Scene Manager and Helio Cloud Rendering, understanding how LUTs are handled can help ensure your post-production process goes smoothly. In this article, we will clarify how LUTs interact with Scene Manager, the camera, and the post-production process.

Scene Manager and LUTs on the Camera

By default, Scene Manager does not collect LUTs directly from the camera's Tone Mapping Config. This means that any LUT applied through the camera settings will not be automatically collected by Scene Manager and rendered on Helio cloud.

Why This Matters

The LUT applied in the camera's tone mapping config is useful for adjusting the exposure and colors while rendering, but Scene Manager will not extract or utilize these settings for post-render processing on Helio cloud. This can result in discrepancies between the rendered output and what is seen in your local frame render, which may be undesirable if you are looking for consistent results.

Using the Post-Production Module to Collect LUTs

To ensure that LUTs are utilized in your render pipeline and properly handled by Helio Cloud Rendering, you must explicitly use the Post-Production module in Scene Manager.

Steps to Use LUTs with Scene Manager:

  1. Open Scene Manager and ensure you have your camera configured with the desired settings.

  2. Instead of relying on the camera’s Tone Mapping Config, navigate to the Post-Production module within Scene Manager.

  3. Apply the necessary LUT(s) within the Post-Production module.

  4. Once applied, these LUTs will be collected and used during rendering. This ensures that any post-processing effects, such as color grading, will be consistent and can be rendered in Helio Cloud.

Why Collect LUTs Through Scene Manager?

When using Helio Cloud Rendering, LUTs need to be collected via Scene Manager for them to be applied correctly during post-processing. Collecting LUTs directly through the camera's tone mapping config won’t pass these LUTs to the cloud renderer, which can cause discrepancies in the final output.

By using the Post-Production module, Scene Manager ensures that the LUTs are captured and passed to Helio Cloud Rendering for final processing.

Key Points to Remember

  • Scene Manager does not automatically collect LUTs attached to camera tone mapping configurations.

  • Use the Post-production module in Scene Manager to ensure LUTs are included in your collected assets.

  • Verify your collected assets to avoid missing LUTs in your final renders.

By following these steps, you can ensure your LUTs are properly managed and included in your scene, maintaining the visual integrity of your renders. If you have further questions, feel free to reach out to our support team.
